About The Cock House
A historical cornerstone, a venerable landmark, and a national monument. These are some of the many phrases used to describe the historical Cock House that still stands majestically in Makhanda (Grahamstown).
The Cock House continues to offer an elegant and original old-school feel and guests are known to make return visits. Guests can choose to stay in the original rooms that date back to the 1800s or in the self-catering modernised apartments and units that provide nothing but elegance.
A two to three-night stay at The Cock House is guaranteed to give you the best comfort, leisure and access to wildlife attractions at nearby game reserves like Pumba and Shamwari Private Game Reserves and Addo Elephant National Park.
Accommodation
The Cock House is a well-established historical building and grounds.
Entry to the accommodation is around the rear of the building behind a secure gate, and electric fencing.
There is a night time guard on duty for extra security.
The garden is immaculately maintained with a large grass area and garden.
There are four guest rooms leading off the main house, as well as two flats.
Off-street parking is available to all of our guests.
The Cock House has a borehole water supply ensuring our guests always have access to water.

Each room has beautifully made beds with clean, white linen. Complimentary sherry is on offer to guests.
Hostess trays with teas and coffees are on offer. Milk is in the fridge. A microwave and fridge is for use by guests to heat food, and make light snacks. Crockery and cutlery are clean and adequate.
